The Weed Traits Database (WTDB)

WTDB resides on the Internet and is open for all to read. However, the first time you need to sign up as a new user. That way, we can keep track of its use.

Data are entered by volunteer weed scientists from the ENDURE RA4.5 team. These scientists are granted rights not only to read but also to add data to.

How to sign up as a WTDB user

1. Click the 'Sign Up' button.

2. Enter your personal data. User name could be, e.g. your full name; any data you enter will be signed with your user name. Password is min. 8 characters including a special one like "_".

3. Click the 'Create User' button.

4. Click the 'Login' button.

5. Enter you user name and password.

6. Click the 'Login' button.

7. You're in. If you want to add data you must first contact the administrator (above).

How to enter data directly

The display of the data is rough and basic in this first version. Once we have some data entered we will decide which displays (queries, sortings) we would like. When you enter data, you will only operate in the first two tabs.

1. First you pile up the references on your species and you estimate the parameters. You may find that this is most easily done pen on paper or in a spreadsheet.

2. Then you enter one record for each source (e.g. papers, reports, personal communications) that you used for parameter estimation. These records are entered in the 'Origin' tab.

3. Finally, you enter one record for each parameter estimate. You'll realise that one of the data items is the origin of the estimate, hence step 2.

How to enter data via a spreadsheet

Some users reported that entering data directly via Internet was slow and unstable. Those users can instead download a spreadsheet to fill in and then send to WTDB management.

You enter data as described above using the first two tabs of the spreadsheet 'Traits' and 'Origin'. Columns in small italics show looked up values for the ID (i.e. code) you have entered in the column to the left of it. E.g. you may have entered 'ELYRE' as a weed ID, and next to it you will then see the full name of that weed in small italics. These automatic lookups of all IDs are provided to help you check that you use the right IDs. The valid IDs for different kinds of information can be gleaned from the tabs: crops, weeds, etc.

When you have finished entered data for a species, send the spreadsheet as an attachment and then we will transfer it properly into WTDB.
